It was cool seeing how evil he could go with this character.robotGEEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00355070295108163031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-73221560881883055752012-05-11T09:50:30.650-07:002012-05-11T09:50:30.650-07:00Yea man! He was so over the top in an awesome way, but also cool and collected when he was mentally messing with people.robotGEEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00355070295108163031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-73542250468556783132012-05-11T09:49:16.843-07:002012-05-11T09:49:16.843-07:00Yea, honestly, despite my issues with certain part...Yea, honestly, despite my issues with certain parts of it, I really, really enjoyed this one. Another perfect example of the type of film they just don't make anymore. It was fun to watch, stylish as hell, and with a good amount of tension. Silver was just fantastic, and Brown was fun to see as a regular cop. This was one of those films I always remember liking, even when I was young, so when it became available on Netflix recently, I jumped at the chance to see it and still enjoyed the hell out of it. What surprised me most was how much it reminded me of a Ridley Scott film, who had released the awesome Black Rain that same year. It had a similar style and look to it, which never noticed before. I wish Bigelow had made more of these kinds of films.

And you might be right. Maybe there was this whole backstory detailing this underlying evil within him just aching to get out. Unless they release some kind of "Director's Cut" (which I doubt), I guess we'll never really know.robotGEEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00355070295108163031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-43143014396106716462012-05-11T01:12:20.236-07:002012-05-11T01:12:20.236-07:00Cracking film. Nice change of role for Curtis, she's always played strong women but never an authority figure like this.

I know what you mean about Ron Silver's character randomly going off the deep end when he finds the gun. Maybe they did have a back story but cut it. I think it still works quite well with no back story. Bigelow was clearly trying to use the film as a larger metaphor for gender politics. Men instinctively crave power. Curtis' character is in a traditionally male role as a police officer. That sort of thing.Jack Thursbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03101157160144955486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-85299637077886499842012-05-10T20:13:33.884-07:002012-05-10T20:13:33.884-07:00Great write-up.
