It's such a unique film, even more so for a sci-fi film. And you just know that it could actually be a great film with some changes, like good effects work and a re-edit. That Workprint Version shows us the possibilities of what could have been. I mean, just that opening is so much more epic than what we saw in the theater. It would be cool if someday Fincher dusted the thing off and put his heart into it and re-tooled it. But we all know that will never happen. But could you imagine?robotGEEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00355070295108163031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-84117222079758271112013-10-09T12:43:10.910-07:002013-10-09T12:43:10.910-07:00Oh yes, all the effects work was terrible, even ri...Oh yes, all the effects work was terrible, even right down to some optical effects. They just didn't work. Hell, even the main effects guy admits they weren't good. But as far as the Alien goes, if Fincher hadn't insisted on the Alien being a fast panther/alien hybrid, then they could have just gone the "man in suit" route for all of the film and it would have been fine. But trying something new obviously didn't work. Not with limited resources. But as I've stated before, if you can look past some things, it's a good, bleak and dark sci-fi film. robotGEEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00355070295108163031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-69622673616500955242013-10-09T11:59:29.683-07:002013-10-09T11:59:29.683-07:00I personally dig this one, I enjoy it for what it ...I personally dig this one, I enjoy it for what it is. When I first saw it I was dissapointed with it because, I was expecting Aliens all over again, but after a few viewings, it grew on me, till now I love it, I mean, it comments on belief systems and if we should rely on them or not. I actually dug the acid vibe the whole film has...it's like it took everything about the last films happy ending and completely turned it upside down and it's just dark dark stuff...depressive even. Sure it's slow, but that doesnt mean its bad in my book. It is what it is, because of the director behind it. It's what I like about these alien films, each one is vastly different from the other, because each director chosen has put their own stamp on it. No one alien film feels the same...or even connected save for the Ripley character. I like that about this franchise, I wonder if they'll ever make another one? Ripley literally has no way of escaping the alien.

The original script with the wooden planet was batsh*t crazy. I read it a while ago. I'm surprised that got so far down the line.

Story aside it's the crappy effects work that really lets it down. I remember one shot they use a rod puppet for the Alien and it looks terrible. I almost wish they'd go back and digitally enhance some of the shots but I guess that would p*ss Fincher off even more.Jack Thursbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03101157160144955486noreply@blogger.com
