Bad Movie Monday presents: Chopping Mall

Here's a little flyer I made up for last Bad Movie Monday's viewing of Chopping Mall. I began holding Bad Movie Nights about 2 months ago at my place on Monday nights. That just seems to be the night that works best with everyone's schedule. We've done 4 films to date, and each has been a rousing success. This past weekend was the 30th Anniversary of Chopping Mall's release, and what better way to celebrate it than to share it with others!

The film was a hit, and 30 years later, hasn't lost it's ability to entertain. It's execution is near flawless, and most of all, i'ts a helluva fun time.

  1. Hey I screen movies on Monday Nights as well! I do it at this local hipster joint, I promote it, its for free, people go and drink beers and watch movies. It's fun times! Last one was a double featuer: Akira and Chronicle, it was a success, lots of people went.

Chopping Mall is a bad movie, but as you state, it's still fun times. I always laugh cause the robots seem so clunky, and you could easily outrun them or destroy them...but of course, they do shoot 80's style laser beams.

    1. Ha! That's badass Francisco! Dude, I wish I could make it public, but I live in a tiny-ass little town that's extremely close-minded. There is no place for me to be able to do that down here, not to my knowledge I think. Though it would be awesome if I could, and share some bad films with the world! It's something I would love to try someday. But for the meantime, I do it at my place. We currently have a group of about 7-10 and when I do it, it's always an open invitation to whoever wants to join and I promote it on Facebook.

There is this one bar just down the street from my place that would be perfect, but I hear the boss is a dick, so that probably won't fly. How do you promote your shows?

Chopping Mall is a special kind of bad. Like, it's super cheesy, but it's made so well. Wynorski shot this surprisingly well, and the effects work is pretty great. At a short hour and 15 minutes, it's a pretty nonstop thrillride from beginning to end. We all enjoyed it really well. To date for Bad Movie Monday, we've shown Raw Force, Never Too Young To Die, Hard Ticket to Hawaii and Chopping Mall. We've thrown in a few other screenings like Transformers The Movie (1988) on Blu ray, Inside, and a few others. As far as entertaining Bad Movie's go, we all agree Never Too Yong To Die is hard to beat. Though we all laughed the most with Hard Ticket. I have a few set for the next few months like Robowar, Shocking Dark, Pieces, The Humanoid, Strike Commando, Samurai Cop, and Ninja III. Got any other sure-fire suggestions?

  2. I promote them through facebook, and with flyers that I photocopy. I talked to the guys at this place I do it and since it is a place for artsy fartsy types where all sorts of bands and poets and what have yous do shows at, well, I simply asked him whats your slowest night? He said mondays, so I said why not show movies? He agreed, I don't charge nothing, I just do it for fun, but I do get free beers all night long and get to enjoy showing and talking film with some movie buffs that always show up. I have a couple of faithful who always come to see the movies I project. It's fun times. Sometimes nobody cares what I'm showing (like the time I projected 1984!) but sometimes it's full blast fun full house like when I showed Akira, Pulp Fiction and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sometimes people will go even if they have seen the film a thousand times cause they like to see it with a fun crowd, drinking beers....next monday its Ninja Scroll and Shogun Assassin double feature!

Oh man, I just watched The Humanoid (working on a review for that one, but its the biggest star wars rip off ever...I'll be reviewing it next week. I recommend a Rock and Roll Nightmare and Trick or Treat double feature!

    1. Dude, Ninja III: The Domination is insane and weird and badass and hilarious and probably one of the best WTF?! movies I've ever seen. It's an excellent Bad Movie Night for sure. Trust me, you'll be so glad you did. :)

  4. Sorry, I recommended Trick or Treat and didn't realize you'd reviewed it a few days ago, but whatever, another sure fire bad movie night you wont believe your eyes type of movie is Blood Diner. Holy shit, you wont believe your eyes when you see that one, it's worth it trust me. Totally hilarious, I also recommend you check out Creatures from the Abyss (1994), aka Plankton. It's an Italian horror film thats bad you won't believe what your seeing, but its fun for that reason. Just like Troll II.

    1. No worries. I actually love Trick or Treat. Easily one of my new favorite 80's horror films now. Though I wouldn't classify it under Bad Movie Night, because it's quite awesome on a number of levels. It's just so cheesy and dated, and I think that's what carries a lot of it's charm. I'm definitely going to track down Blood Diner and Creatures from the Abyss! Thanks for the recommendations! And be sure to get Ninja III sooooooon!

  5. The Humanoid is extremely watchable, you'll die laughing at everything they ripped off from Star Wars...I had a blast with it, but I personally like Starcrash way better, its funnier if you can believe it.

    1. So we just watched The Humanoid this weekend. Surprisingly well made, and pretty funny. Though we agreed it probably wouldn't be a good contender for Bad Movie Night. It didn't quite reach that level of absurd, bad and entertaining that others like Never Too Young To Die and Hard Ticket To Hawaii reach so easily. I might throw it on for Italian Trash Tuesday sometime though. I've actually been wanting to see Starcrash really bad. That looks more like Bad Movie Night material; super cheesy, nudity, and schlocky. LOL.
